Before mobile phones, WhatsApp groups and being able to see exactly where your mates were, Birmingham had The Ramp.
It was the place to meet in the city centre. You arranged to meet at The Ramp before heading off to the Trocadero, the Ship Ashore or wherever the night was taking you. No texts. No location sharing. You just knew everyone would turn up.
It’s science, or something.
This original Birmingham art print celebrates that much-loved meeting place, reimagining The Ramp in the bold graphic style of a classic vintage railway travel poster.
Designed here in Birmingham, it’s a colourful bit of Brummie nostalgia and a reminder of a city centre that generations of us remember very fondly.
Birmingham art exhibited at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
This particular artwork means a lot to me because The Ramp was exhibited at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery as part of the Made in Birmingham exhibition.
Seeing one of my own Birmingham designs exhibited at BMAG, in the city that inspired it, is something I’m incredibly proud of.
What started as my take on a familiar Brummie meeting place ended up on the walls of Birmingham’s museum and art gallery. That still feels pretty special.
