Birmingham has some brilliant buildings. It also has some buildings people have spent decades arguing about. I love both.
This collection of original Birmingham architecture art prints takes six distinctive post-war buildings and reimagines them in the graphic style of classic mid-century paperback covers.
Bold blocks of colour, simple typography and some of Brum’s finest concrete, steel and glass. What’s not to like?
Designed by Birmingham artist and designer Stacey Barnfield, the collection brings together my love of the city, architecture and vintage graphic design to create Birmingham wall art that’s a little different from the usual skyline print.
Six Birmingham buildings. Six vintage-inspired covers.
Choose your favourite from:
The Rotunda – surely one of the great Birmingham buildings. Instantly recognisable and still looking good after all these years.
Central Library – John Madin’s much-loved and much-debated Brutalist landmark. Gone, but definitely not forgotten.
Alpha Tower – a slice of Birmingham modernism that has been part of the city skyline since the 1970s.
BT Tower – you can spot it from all over Brum. A proper Birmingham landmark and an essential part of the skyline.
Livery Street – inspired by one of my favourite old Brummie sayings: “a face as long as Livery Street.”
New Street Signal Box – railway architecture doesn’t get much more distinctive. Brutalist, Grade II listed and unmistakably Birmingham.
Each design is available as an individual unframed art print in a choice of sizes, or you can choose all six Birmingham book-cover designs together on one 50cm x 40cm print.
Unique Birmingham gifts for architecture and design lovers
These prints make distinctive Birmingham gifts for architects, designers, book lovers, Brutalism fans and proud Brummies.
They’re equally at home on a gallery wall, in an office or studio, or as a Birmingham leaving gift for someone who wants to take a little bit of the city with them.
If you love mid-century graphic design and Birmingham architecture, this is probably your sort of thing.
